I was recently listening to a Relationship talk show on Blog Talk Radio. This is a pretty popular radio show where the topics range from relationships, marriage and everything in between. The panel is always comprised of educated professionals who have an opinion on the discussion topic. Usually, the host chooses panelist that have different views on the topic which makes for an interesting conversation. This past Sunday, the topic of discussion just happened to be dating and relationship issues that professionals in the entertainment industry face.
As the discussion began, the panelist were introduced. Then they stated their profession and marital status. So, the panelist began the conversation and basically all of them had their say and stated their opinions. The host was taking questions from the chat room and the dialogue got pretty interesting. I started to notice a pattern and an all too familiar similarity between the panelist and the audience in the chat room. The one attribute that each person desired in a mate was "Godliness". Throughout the discussion, one person or another wanted someone who was "Godly". So, being the person that I am, I had to do some research on the word to get a full and just understanding. Webster's Dictionary defines the word "Godly" as divine or devout; but, that didn't really delve into the definition as I had hoped. Further research led me to Proverbs 31 and the Virtuous Woman and to the Book of Ruth and the Boaz Man. This gave me a full understanding of what being called "Godly" truly means. If one is a "Godly" person, they believe in God and strive to be Christ-like on a daily basis.
Now that I have an understanding of the word, I can relate to a statement that one of the panelist made during the show. After stating all of the qualities that she wanted in a man, the last quality seemed to have the most impact on the group. She said that her potential mate had to have the "Perfume of GOD". Now that threw me for a loop and of course you know that the chat room was on fire by then. This led the host to ask her to explain and give details as to what she meant. She began to explain that when a man has a close relationship with GOD he can smell GOD's perfume. GOD's perfume is permeated through that particular person. She further explained that GOD's perfume is peace. I never really thought about this subject in that aspect but I was intrigued nonetheless.
